Principal’s Message

St Patrick's Catholic Primary School Summer HillThank you for choosing to learn more about St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, Summer Hill

I am delighted to be joining the community of St Patrick’s. Leading a school community is an honour and a privilege and I am looking forward to getting to know and working in partnership with the staff, students, families and the parish team to continue to strengthen this vibrant Catholic educational community.

As a Catholic school, we place a high priority on the formation and practice of our faith. We design and deliver a rigorous educational program that strives to meet the spiritual, academic, social, emotional, creative and physical needs of students. St Patrick’s is an inviting and friendly school and I would like to thank the Parish Priest, Fr Gerard, the staff, students and families for the warm welcome and all that you bring to this amazing community. I would like to acknowledge the exceptional leadership of the previous principal Ms Jo Flynn. Jo worked tirelessly to support and nurture every student and enhance the professional practice of teachers and school leaders during her principalship at St Patrick’s.

At St Patrick’s we strive to provide rich opportunities to celebrate our faith, enhance learning and build strong relationships. Our teachers and support staff provide high quality educational programs that support, challenge and extend students’ learning within a safe, supportive and caring environment. The staff at St Patrick’s are committed to knowing each student and designing engaging learning experiences that allow students to grow in confidence and capability.

I congratulate Ms Jenny Jago, Assistant Principal, and Mrs Renee Da Silva, Religious Education Coordinator, on their substantive appointments to these significant leadership roles. I look forward to working closely with them, as together with the staff, parish, students and parents, we form hearts, build minds and transform lives.

I look forward to welcoming you to St Patrick’s.

Warm regards
Sue Bracken
Principal

St Patrick's Catholic Primary School Summer HillHistory
St Patrick’s Summer Hill parish was established in 1949 with 26 students. By 1959, the Sisters of St Joseph conducted a full primary course and secondary classes to intermediate with 300 students staffed by eight sisters.

The Josephite Sisters ended their leadership in 1989 and Mr Peter Hamer became the first lay principal of St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Summer Hill. Between 2006 and 2009, building works were completed, including building a hall, upgrading classrooms, teaching areas, the library, and the canteen.

Charism
We are proud of our deep connection to the Josephite Sisters and aspire, in the words of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop, to ‘Never see a need without doing something about it’.

We also seek to live by the words St Patrick used to describe the presence of Christ in all we see and do. These words and our proud connection to Blessed Mary of the Cross MacKillop inform our school motto of ‘Christ alive in us’.

St Patrick's Catholic Primary School Summer HillMission
‘Loving God, loving learning, loving each child, loving others’

In partnership with our community, and in keeping with the virtues of our Catholic faith, we are committed to the education of our students by knowing them as learners, inspiring them to follow the example of Jesus and by empowering them with the knowledge and skills they need to live purposeful and meaningful lives.

Vision
As a committed Catholic community founded on the dual charism of St Patrick and St Mary of the Cross Mackillop we: form hearts, build minds and transform lives.

Principles

  • Compassion: We are inspired to be inclusive, showing love and respect for all members of our community.
  • Integrity: We are inspired to take responsibility for our actions by being honest and courageous, while fostering the dignity of each person.
  • Justice: We are inspired to ‘love one another as God has loved us’ by reaching out to those in need.
  • Stewardship: We are inspired to treasure, conserve and share all God’s gifts that have been entrusted to us.
